          The Union of European Federalists brings you this site in order to keep you updated of the latest developments of the Conference on the Future of Europe. We want to create a A hub of political intelligence on the Future of Europe. This site will give you access to all relevant official documents, as well as the latest academic articles from our partners, think-tanks and other civil society organisations; and finally, our federalists proposals to make of the Conference on the future of Europe a real success for the European citizens and to promote a  sovereign, more democratic and powerful European Union.

In March 2019, President Macron proposed to organise by 2020, together “with the representatives of the European institutions and the Member States, a Conference for Europe in order to propose all the changes our political project needs”; in order “to chart together the road to European renewal”.After her election by the European Parliament in July 2019, Ursula Von der Leyen expressed her commitment to the discussion and debate on the future of Europe. She also confirmed the Conference on the future of Europe will be organised by the European institutions and that citizens should “have their say at a Conference on the Future of Europe, to start in 2020 and run for two years”.The date, the composition, working method and mandate of the Conference has started to be underlined by the Parliament. The Conference in meant to start on Schuman day 2020 (9th May).

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The conference of the future of Europe should be - according to the European Parliament-: “a renewed opportunity to have a profound debate on the future of Europe, so as to shape the Union that we want to live in together“. It is supposed to last 2 years and to be composed of different bodies with different responsibilities such as: Conference Plenary, Citizens´ agora, Youth Agora, Steering Committee and Executive Coordination Board (see the Parliament's proposal on the composition of the Conference in the chart).

President Von der Leyen guidelines enshrined "the strengthening of our democracy", calling for a Conference on the future of Europe .In her Mission letter to Commissioner Dubravka Suica, von der Leyen stated that “we need a Conference on the Future of Europe, to start in 2020 and run for two years. [Which] should bring together citizens of all ages from across our Union, as well as civil society and European institutions”.

The Union of European Federalists is committed to advocate for an inclusive Conference that translate into real changes for the citizens; the Conference on the Future of Europe is a historic opportunity towards a federal Europe, towards a sovereign, more democratic and powerful Union. The Union of European federalists invites you to engage with the Conference in order to assure that a the Conference should leads to a concrete outcome, including treaty revision under Art. 48 TEU.
