Statement on Ukraine
Adopted by the UEF Federal Committee, Brussels, 13 December 2014

The UEF Federal Committee, held in Brussels on December 12-13 2014, states its support for the Ukrainian people’s aspirations for European values, democracy, respect of human rights and freedom.

The UEF believes that the EU should uphold the rule of international law on the European continent and beyond and avoid the creation of new divisions in Europe. Any attempt to forcibly change European borders must be firmly condemned.

The UEF mourns the victims of the conflict and of those of the crash of the Malaysian flight MH17.

A democratic and free Europe can be achieved only through the construction of a European federation that guarantees peace, democracy and the respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The Ukraine crisis is a wakeup call for the continent in general and for the European Union in particular. The UEF believes that the time for the EU to strengthen its common foreign policy and defence policy cannot be postponed anymore if Europe wants to avoid such crisis from happening again.
