European Federalists’ Winter Reception 2012
The European Federalists had their annual European Federalists’ Winter Reception at the Brussels Press Club Europe on Thursday 6 December 2012. More than 100 persons gathered at the event jointly organised by the Union of European Federalists (UEF), the Young European Federalists (JEF-Europe) and Europa-Union Deutschland Brussels (EUD).

Isabelle Durant, Vice-President of the European Parliament speaking about the need to go local and promote federalism on levels where it is needed the most

During the soirée, the participants celebrated the 40th Anniversary of JEF with members, partners from other pro-European organisations and above all friends. In a very familiar and informal context they all enjoyed mulled wine and Christmas sweets together one last time before the end of the year.

The guests were addressed by key political figures of Brussels: Isabelle Durant, Vice-President of the European Parliament and Member of the Spinelli Group, Rainer Wieland, Vice-President of the European Parliament and President of the EUD, Pauline Gessant, President of JEF Europe and Michael Köhler, Head of Cabinet Commissioner Oettinger and President of the EUD in Brussels.

All speakers expressed the need of a more united and democratic Europe and advocated for a real federalist approach in the European integration process. They tackled the difficulty of being federalist in the current economic and financial context however, and confident that we are heading towards more European integration, they invited those who were present in the room to join the movement.
