POLICY & ADVOCACY OFFICER (INTERNSHIP)


We are looking for a Policy & Advocacy Officer for a new position based in our European Secretariat in Brussels.



The position


Under the supervision of UEF Director and in close cooperation with UEF Secretary General, you will:


• Monitor EU policy developments of interest to the UEF and identify opportunities to influence institutions and decision makers on related UEF policies and objectives
• Monitor the preparation of key reports by the European Parliament and contribute to preparing  positions for UEF advocacy activities
• Monitor the European press on matters of interest to UEF and identify opportunities for reactions and initiatives
• Work on publications and communication material to disseminate UEF policy messages to relevant targets
• Support the development and implementation of the UEF’s policy priorities and advocacy initiatives decided by UEF statutory bodies. This may involve conducting thorough background research on EU policy topics and contributing to, writing, and editing briefings, policy documents, articles and statements aimed at MEPs, EU officials, national policy-makers and opinion leaders, NGOs, think-tanks and other parties
• Support the development and implementation of UEF networking initiatives towards European think-tanks, foundations and other NGOs through the design of advocacy strategies
• Support UEF Political Commissions in the preparation and follow-up of policy meetings and events
• Support the rest of the team in the UEF Secretariat in their activities as required


Your profile

• You are a passionate believer in European integration and are familiar with current European issues, policies and institutions. Prior involvement in a pro-European or federalist organisation would be an asset
• You have a university degree at master level, preferably in European law, European studies, international relations or political science
• You are fluent in written and spoken English and preferably also in French. Any other EU languages, and particularly German, are an asset
• You have initial working experience in a European NGO, political party or Brussels-based consultancy
• You like debating and writing on European issues, and you are good at it
• You are able to comfortably liaise with external parties
• You have excellent drafting and presentation skills and you are good at preparing professional publications
• You are IT savvy, and are able to use the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) proficiently; you have some experience in website management
• You are social media savvy
• You have a good knowledge of information sources on the Internet related to European matters
• You have a good understanding of professionalism and are committed to delivering the highest quality of work
• You are self-motivated and able to work independently and, when necessary, under pressure to meet tight deadlines
• You are flexible, hands-on and do not mind helping others in the team on matters outside your responsibilities when the workload requires
• You are an EU national or already have permission to work in Belgium during the expected contract period

• A total compensation package of €1.000 (consisting of €800 indemnity, €140 lunch vouchers, €60 reimbursement of your monthly public transport subscription and phone expenses). An increase in indemnity may be considered after 6 months.
• A full time position, 5 days a week.
• Compensation with subsequent time off for occasional work in evenings and weekends
• Occasional travel to events outside Brussels
