#wakEUp, revive Europe!
Thursday 28th June 2018, 13:00-15:30, Petite rue de la loi, Brussels
Everyone agrees Europe needs change, yet very little gets done. Eurozone reforms have been discussed for years, but they are repeatedly postponed. Europe needs investments, but the European budget remains tiny. Immigration remains a common challenge, but we face it divided and build new barriers between Europeans. The European Union should be able to act faster and better, but it remains prisoner of national governments. President Macron’s proposals for a “sovereign, democratic and united Europe” are left unanswered or, at best, receive minimalistic concessions. As Europe fails to change and deliver, citizens turn to populists and nationalists, who gain ground and come to power in more and more European countries. Our national political leaders are sleepwalking towards the collapse of Europe!
On June 28th-29th, heads of states and government will meet in Brussels for a meeting of the European Council. We will be there to call for action. It’s time to decide a roadmap to strengthen the Euro. It’s time to increase massively the EU budget. It’s time to give Europe a real government. It’s time for Europe to become a proper democracy. It’s time to engage citizens in reforming Europe.
If you still believe in the European project, if you believe Europe needs political unity, if you believe EU political leaders must take action to revive Europe now, join the demonstration “#wakEUp, Revive Europe!” on June 28th as of 13:00 in front of the European Council (“Petite rue de la Loi", between rond-point Schuman and Parc du Cinquantenaire). Bring along a European flag and a banner to make your demands known and your voice heard. The action is promoted by the Union of European Federalists (UEF), the Young European Federalists (JEF) and their respective sections in Belgium and Brussels, in cooperation with the European Movement in Belgium. Other organisations are invited to join as partners by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
