FEDERALIST DEBATE
16 APRIL 2016 | Maison de l'Europe, Luxembourg

THE FUTURE OF SCHENGEN:
Failures, Challenges and Perspectives
Maison de l'Europe, 7, rue du Marché-aux-Herbes, L-2920 Luxembourg

The debate was organised in two consecutive sessions, where the federalist perspective was confronted with the current threats to the Schengen Agreement, the management of the EU common external borders, and the main challenges facing the European integration project today:

•    The costs of non-Schengen: how the re-establishment of internal border controls threatens the economic, social and political future of the European Union;
•    Schengen and the EU external border: how migration flows from outside the European Union challenge the limits of Schengen and  the future of European foreign and defence policy.

A translation English-French and French-English was provided to facilitate the debate.

The event was organized by the Luxembourg section of the Union of European Federalists (UEF) in collaboration with the UEF European Secretariat and the Young European Federalists (JEF Europe). The other federalist organisations active in Luxembourg associated to the event were: the European Movement Luxembourg (MEL), the UEF Groupe Europe and the Young Europeans Luxembourg (JEL).

The event, supported by the European institutions, was hosted by M. Guy Berg, Director of the European Commission Delegation in Luxembourg, and took place at the House of Europe (7, rue du Marché-aux-Herbes, Luxembourg).
